I love trying out new products and I am excited to share with you all, my latest experience trying out a new coffee substitute from Ecoideas. It's called "CoffIdeas Roasted Black Fig" and just as the name describes it, it is actually ground up dried figs. How cool is that. I decided to try it hot at first and made it in my coffee press and added soy creamer to it the same way I make my morning decaff coffee. But I found it to be a bit too sweet for me as the figs definitely give it a mild sweetness. I have always loved dried figs since I was a kid, but who knew as an adult I would be enjoying this lovely treat as an alternative to coffee. And no caffeine high to unwind from. Caffeine makes me all shakey and raises my anxiety, making my heart race and then I feel sick, so I actually have to avoid it so I am super stoked to be able to find an alternative like "CoffIdeas Roasted Black Fig" that I can make into a lovely summer drink as an alternative.
Since I actually like the occasional cold coffee drink, I decided to make a cold Frappe with the remaining coffee. So I let it cool down and ended up making a delicious "Cold Roasted Black Fig Frappe". My hubby enjoyed a large cup with me as well. He actually called it a "milkshake" but it was a Frappe. Here's the recipe:
Cold Roasted Black Fig Frappe
In a blender add:
1/2 c unsweetened organic almond milk
3/4 c pre made Coffideas Roasted Black Fig coffee alternative (I added 1 tsp of ground Coffideas Roasted Black Fig to my French coffee press and added 1 1/2 c of boiling water and let it seep for about 8 minutes) Then I let it cool before using in the recipe.
1/2 c - 3/4 c ice cube
1/2 c canned whipped cream
1/4 tsp of Cinnamon Flavoral Stevia or your choice of sweetener
1 tsp of grated chocolate
1. Place almond milk and cold coffee in blender and add ice. Blend on high for approximately 45 seconds.
2. Pour mixture into a large coffee mug or 2 nice large parfait glasses. If the icy mixture stays in the blender, be sure to scoop some of it into the glass and give it a stir to blend it.
3. Add a swirl of whipped cream on top.
4. Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and top up with some grated chocolate on top and serve immediately.
Serves: 2
Nutritional Hint: Don't throw away the grounds once you have made your "Frappe" or caffeine free drink. Add them to your favorite cookie or muffin recipe as they are a great source of Vitamin E and Vitamin C and fibre. Enjoy a more nutritious treat by using up these tasty morsels, after all they really are "dried figs". The fibre is great for lowering cholesterol too!
